It's not metal, it seems to be plastic. It's lightweight, so you definitely can't put anything heavy in there. It was easy to assemble, and everything arrived exactly as described. I'm deducting two stars because it's not metal. Also, how did they fit a microwave in there? Ours didn't even come close to fitting
